In this day and age, do you really need to tell an elite athlete at a top sports school to avoid off-campus parties that get out-of-hand, or at the very least, not to get into it with the local cops when they try to break it up? Apparently you do to Notre Dame starting QB Tommy “Get Your Hands Off Me” Rees. Here’s more on his arrest on a preliminary felony charge including resisting law enforcement, felony battery to law enforcement, minor consumption and public intoxication charges from the Chicago Tribune:
Officers found a “madhouse of people” drinking and congregating outside a home, enjoying the warm night, he said. “It was a nice night, they were drinking, they’re having a loud time, which is the reason we’re there.”
As officers approached, five or six people hopped a fence and led police on a chase, Trent said. The officers caught up with the group and used their hands to corral them, but Rees “actively resisted,” Trent said. “It wasn’t terribly violent, but it was enough to be considered resisting,” he said. One officer suffered a minor scrape and “had the wind knocked out of him” while trying to stop the group, Trent said. Rees lifted a knee into that officer, Trent said. Rees also was pepper-sprayed while on the ground, police said.
Sorry, no tasering in this story, but maybe at Rees’ next arrest. At right, Tommy Rees mug shot.
BONUS COVERAGE: Apparently getting into fights while drunk runs in the family: In October 2011, Rees’ sister Meghan was arrested in West Lafayette after getting into an altercation in the stands with some Purdue fans. Check out that story and her mug shot here.

So, a fight breaks out in the stands during last Saturday’s game in West Lafayette, Indiana between the Purdue Boilermakers and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Nothing really new there: there’s usually some kind of altercation at ever major college football game played. The fact that one of the allegedly drunk combatants was a good-looking blond is a little unusual (usually they’re fat, middle-aged guys) but not totally out of the question.
But when the young lady charges is the sister of Notre Dame starting quarterback Tommy Rees? Now THAT doesn’t happen every day, but apparently it did Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium where university police were called to Section 116 after a fight broke out at about 8:38 pm. At the scene, other fans pointed to Meghan Rees, 21, as the primary culprit and she was immediately escorted from the stadium. Meghan, a student at Miami University of Ohio, was cited for public intoxication and had her angry-looking mug shot (right) taken for good measure. She was reportedly ejected from the stadium before the first quarter was even over! That’s one partying babe.
There has been no official comment from Notre Dame, Coach Brian Kelly or Tommy about the incident. We have also not been able to confirm if Meghan is single or not, but to many of our readers she is definitely “girlfriend material.” Above is Ms. Rees mug shot picture, to the right it is a much better photo from what we believe is her Twitter account.
You can follow Meghan on Twitter @meghanrees.
