ESPN Announcer Ron Franklin in Trouble for Calling Female Sideline Reporter “Sweet Cakes”

The sexual harassment just never stops at ESPN, does it? Our buddy Brooks at SportsByBrooks.com has the inside scoop on the latest incident involving play-by-play announcer Ron “Women Should Be Barefoot & Pregnant” Franklin and long suffering sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards:

Longtime ESPN announcer Ron Franklin was pulled off ESPN’s Saturday Fiesta Bowl radio broadcast by ESPN executives after an incident involving the veteran broadcaster and ESPN-TV sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards.

Scheduled to work on the ESPN-TV broadcast of the Chick-fil-A Bowl Friday, Franklin and Edwards were part of a production meeting before the game that was also attended by ESPN announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore. During the meeting, the subject of Gilmore’s wife Marie being elected Alameda (CA) mayor came up.

As Gilmore, Cunningham and Franklin discussed the subject, Edwards tried to join the conversation.  When she did, Franklin said to her, “Why don’t you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes.” Edwards responded to Franklin by saying, “don’t call me sweetcakes, I don’t like being talked to like that.” Franklin then said, “okay then, a–hole.” After the meeting Edwards reported Franklin’s comments to ESPN management.

Former ESPN Employee/Steve Phillips “Girlfriend” Told to Get Used to Sexual Harassement Culture at Network

You all remember Brooke Hundley, don’t you? She was the young ESPN production assistant whose revelations about an affair with baseball analyst Steve Phillips rocked the “Worldwide Leader in Sexual Harassment Lawsuits” and ended with his dismissal. She is now suing the network for back wages she’s owed and the emotional distress of all of this and asking for–wait for it–$15,000.

Yes, you read that right: 15 grand.

Look, Brooke. We’re not telling you how to run your life, but that seems a little low to us. Not that we think you should sue them for millions, but if what your saying is the cable network ruined your career, that’s not putting much of a price tag on your future. But 15 Gs? ESPN blows that much each day on hairspray, and that’s just for Chris Berman But hey, your lawyer looks pretty sharp, so we’ll just let him handle all details and collect his small retainer fee.

Tiger Woods Update: Latest Lover Was Neighbor Girl, 22

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Tiger Woods . . . comes this story from the National Enquirer involving a 22-year-old neighbor girl and sex on the sofa in his office. Tiger Woods didn’t just seduce porn stars and party girls – he had a one night stand with a neighbor, a tabloid reported Tuesday. Woods had his way with 22-year-old Raychel Coudriet on a couch in his office, near a crib for one of his kids, the National Enquirer reports. And he didn’t wear a condom.  “I felt used and violated, like I meant nothing to him but a night of casual sex,” Coudriet said, a source told the tab. “I just wanted to dig a big hole, crawl in and die.”

The revolting revelation came a day before Woods is supposed to end his five month exile from professional golf and tee up at the Masters tournament in Augusta.  Woods has admitted cheating on wife Elin Nordegren with a bevy of babes, but Coudriet differs from the pack because she lives near the golfer’s gated mansion outside Orlando – and because Tiger has known her since she was 14.
