Yet another successful football player who can afford a limo, a driver, a taxi, or at least 20 bucks to a sober friend to drive him home, for cryin out loud, is arrested for DWI. Not good for Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush, who is scheduled to be a free agent this off season.
Blah, blah, blah. The first paragraph of this story sounds pretty familiar, doesn’t it? Young, rich, athlete, D.W.I., can afford a taxi, and such bad timing. Sheesh!
I almost did not even bother, but then I realized that the least I could do to try and help these athletes is by being a part of the shaming of this kind of behavior, right? I do not think young professional athletes feel ashamed any more by their bad behavior. I am no psychologist, but it is pretty simple to see that nobody is learning from their mistakes, or the mistakes of others. They think they are above it, at least, until they get busted. My gut tells me that this is when we must make them feel ashamed, and try to look down upon it. Tell society that this kind of behavior is not acceptable, and collectively bow and shake our heads in disgust.
Oh, and don’t worry about us. There will be plenty more stories like this to write about. This shaming thing? It will never work.
Oakland Raiders running back Michael Bush was arrested and charged with OWI in Indiana early Saturday, according to the Clark County Jail. Bush was arrested at about 4:30 a.m. in Jeffersonville for allegedly driving while intoxicated, according to Clark County police. He was booked into the Clark County Jail. Bush is from Louisville. He played football for Louisville Male High School and the University of Louisville. (Source – WLKY)
