Assist. HS Baseball Coach Accused of Giving Pot to Grieving Players

HS Baseball Coach accused of giving players marijuanaAthletes usually bond with their coaches.  Even the bad ones. They can, however, become very close with the good ones. St. Helens High School (WA) head baseball coach Tim Lokken was apparently one of the good ones and it appears that his recent passing from an illness hit his team–still in the middle of their season–pretty hard. So, what can an assistant coach do to get the team over their grief?

How about a little weed you say? Great idea . . . if you want to go to to jail.

Details on this strange story from The Daily News:

Randy J. Fenimore, 23, a volunteer assistant coach, was arrested Thursday and faces six counts of marijuana delivery and six counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, according to St. Helens Police Sgt. Phil Edwards. Fenimore was booked into the Columbia County Jail. Bail was set at $420,000.

Edwards said the incident occurred April 9, when Fenimore was supervising eight players on an overnight trip to a St. Helens batting practice facility at 555 Columbia River Highway. The outing was intended to help players mourn the loss of head coach Tim Lokken, who died from an illness the day before.

Edwards said police believe seven of the players smoked marijuana during the trip, and that Fenimore and two players provided the drugs. He said it appears the players smoked two joints among them.

“It seemed to be a spur-of-the-moment idea brought up by one individual,” Edwards said. “(Fenimore) was present during the conversation and did nothing to discourage (the use of marijuana).”

Dude! Ten High School Football Players Suspended for Smoking Weed Before Game

You know, you can make an argument that pot should be legalized, but right now it’s not. And if you’re a high school student, you’ll find that even if you are a football start, lighting up a doobie before a big game is probably going to get you in trouble. Like, suspended from the team and expelled from school trouble.

For ten players on the Hungers Lane High School football team, what started as a post-game rumor, ended with surveillance footage showing them doing something that didn’t look quite kosker outside a bathroom. In the end, nine admitted they smoke marijuana before their game against Hendersonville High, and the tenth said it was his. Busted!

On the plus side, they did win big, 38-0. Oh, no wait, I read that wrong. The Hunters Lane High Stoners actually lost 38-0, but were exceptionally cool during the post-game handshake after such a devastating loss. Dude!

Ten Hunters Lane High School football players have been suspended from the team and expelled from school after nine admitted to smoking marijuana, while another admitted to possessing the illegal drug.  A football coach at the school heard rumors Monday morning that some players smoked pot before Friday night’s 38-0 loss to Hendersonville last Friday night.

The coach then asked the school resource police officer to look at a surveillance tape near a bathroom locker room. The tape showed 11 players around the bathroom. The players were called to the principal’s office and nine players admitted to smoking marijuana, one said he had possession of the narcotic, while another denied any wrongdoing.  School representatives said the 10 players have all been expelled.  Possession of drugs on a Metro school campus is considered a no tolerance offense and automatically results in expulsion.

Dude! Disc Golfer Caught With Nearly 80 lbs of Weed in SUV

You know what “disc golf” is, right? It’s a sport that combines throwing a Frisbee over a course modeled after a golf course, and tends to attract a little more of a “psychedelic” crowd than regular golf.

How psychedelic? One guy who claims to have participated in a disc golf tournament in Montana and was driving home to Kentucky was pulled over by South Dakota cops. The cop’s drug dog detected something unusual in the vehicle and after a search, officers found 78.5 lbs of marijuana hidden in a rear passenger’s door and the luggage rack.

Oh man!

The real question: if he was going home with that much weed, how much did he start the tournament with? And, more importantly, does he even remember competing?

The accused, Jeffery Layland, faces felony for possession with intent to distribute one pound or more of marijuana and two misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Here’s more from Rapid City Journal:

A man claiming to be a professional disc golfer was arrested east of Rapid City Monday after a South Dakota Highway Patrol officer found 78.5 pounds of marijuana in his sports utility vehicle. Jeffrey Layland, 30, of Bowling Green, Ky., was stopped for speeding at mile post 67 by patrolman Matthew Oxner.

According to Oxner’s probable cause affidavit, Layland told Oxner he was returning from a professional disc golf tournament in Missoula, Mont. Layland refused to let Oxner search his SUV. Oxner’s drug dog detected the marijuana during a perimeter search of the vehicle. A search of the SUV and its Yakima rack revealed the marijuana stowed in a rear passenger’s door and the luggage rack.

Not sure if it’s the same guy (there was no mug shot with the story) but there is a profile of a Jeff Layland on this professional disc golf website.
