NutriSystem Review: Another Overpriced Meal Delivery Plan?

What exactly is NutriSystem? Basically, like eDiets.com's Deliciously Yours, it is less of diet and more of a "meal delivery plan." With it, you receive three meals a day, plus a snack or dessert that are already cooked and shipped to you in what is called their "stay fresh" packaging. All you have to do is heat and eat. Sounds simple, right?

First, you start off by selecting the "28-Day Program" that best fits your profile: Women's, Men's, Women's Silver, Men's Silver, Women's Type II Diabetic, Men's Type II Diabetic or Vegetarian. From there you select the foods you'd like to eat from more than 120 prepackaged entrees, snacks and desserts. That's one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner and one dessert for each day . . . for 28 days. (If you eat two lunches in a single day, it's not going to work as well!) Or you can just let NutriSystem make the choices for you and you can simply order the 28-Day "Favorites Package" featuring a pre-selected assortment o fmeals. Either way, everything comes as a package to your door, ready eat. Sounds good? Yeah, well someone needs to be there to sign for this load of food, don't they? In most places, anyway.

Now, about the price. If you chose the Auto Delivery system (they keeps sending you food month-after-month without you having to re-order) you get a 10% discount so the cost for a 28 day (guess you have to figure out the other days) is $319.95 and is shipped. If you don't go with the automatic system, the price jumps to $355.50 PLUS $16 shipping, or nearly $400 a month to feed one person! That's more than some people spend each month to feed a small family! Okay, there is also an online nutritionist and fitness trainer available to you as part of the package, but that's still pretty steep to feed one person.

Also, some people have complained about both the lack of quality and lack of good choices (as in, "Oh not that AGAIN!) amongst the lunches and dinners. If you are single, never learned to cook, have trouble with portion control, and don't mind eating the same thing on a regular basis, this might be the plan for you.

Are there cheaper options? Yes. One that we know that many people have had success with is called Fat Loss 4 Idiots. You may have heard it called the Idiot Proof Diet, because it really is fool-proof. Their website creates a customized menu for you, so you can prepare healthy meals, at home, for the entire family! And with Fat Loss 4 Idiots there is only a one time fee of $39. That's right, $39.

If you need someone to make and send you pre-packaged meals every single day--and have that kind of money--by all means check out NutriSystem. There certainly are a lot of success stories attributed to this plan, but what happens when you stop eating their food? Will you have learned not only to eat healthier, but COOK healthier? Or will you need to keep paying them month-after-month so you don't pack the pounds back on?

We can't tell you what to do, but we suggest checking out ALL your options and seeing which weight loss plan works best for you.

Is NutriSystem Expensive? A Balanced Review

This review of NutriSystem comes from ChaseFreedom.com:
NutriSystem's approach revolves around the consumption of their prepackaged meals, which are definitely convenient and helpful in dealing with controlling your portion size, but they often fail to prepare the dieter for food preparation once the diet ends. Therefore, the key to the success of this diet is the transitional period where the dieter goes from prepackaged to regular, prepared meals. Unless you plan on eating prepackaged indefinitely, which is great if that's what works for you.
On the program you are assisted by a wealth of on-line support, counseling and informational resources. Regular exercise is emphasized and their website has an excellent virtual trainer that shows you how to do innumerable exercises the safe and healthy way. Basic membership and access to their website is free. You pay for the food, which averages about $300/month.
Nutrisystem might seem at first to be more expensive in comparison to other programs, but when taking into account that any diet is going to require the purchase of food, it is probably less than most.
