Youth Soccer Coach Accused of Sending Picture of His Genitals to Girl, 13

We're not seeing as many High School Coach Sex Scandals this year, but then again we're not really look for them as much. This one caught our attention though, because it involved the new craze of "sexting" where one uses a cell phone to exchange naked pictures and our naughty talk. But with a 13-year-old girl? That'll get you tossed in jail every time. Here's more from WHDH-TV:
A youth soccer coach was charged with sending explicit photos to a 13-year-old girl and trying to talk her into having sex with him. Lucas Ruano, 21, allegedly used his cell phone to take a nude picture of himself and sent it to the young girl, said police. Officials said he also tried to get her to have sex with him in his apartment via text message.

Ruano pled guilty to charges of possession of obscene material, dissemination of visual material to a minor, enticing a girl under 16 and dissemination of matter harmful to a minor.

Crazy Hazing Days are Back! Three New Sports Initiations to Report

In many parts of the country it's cold outside, which means young people are spending more time INDOORS where, apparently, the coolest thing to do is hazing your teammates and friends. In one case we see the return of teabagging (rubbing one's junk on another male's face) in another we had someone go to the hospital, and in the third, several faculty members have been suspended for failing to report an incident. Now for the details:

It's Teabagging Time in Indiana! - Five male students at Greensburg Junior High School (four eighth graders and a seventh grader) have been suspended for their part in an "inappropriate hazing-style incident" that occurred sometime before Christmas. According to a source, the teens were suspended after an internal investigation revealed that members of the basketball team held down at least one other teammate down while other players sat on them in nothing but their underwear--or less--and then "slapped the restrained boy in the face with their genitalia." How'd you like to have that on your permanent record? (Greensburg Daily News) Thanks to Swingbelly for the link!

LAPD Looking to HS Hazing After Staff Fail to Report Incidents - Details are still sketchy, but at least six STAFF members at Taft High School (Los Angeles) were reportedly transferred to non-school-based jobs this week while an investigation continued into alleged hazing incidents involving members of the boy's volleyball team. Why the transfers? The alleged incidents reportedly happened a while back and the adults involved failed to report them. Oops! And now the cops are involved, so we fully expect to hear more about this one. (MSNBC)

Aggie Corps Hazing Returns! - Two Texas A&M cadets have been arrested and charged with hazing in connection with an incident that allegedly happened last semester. According to police, an Aggie sophomore claims he suffered internal injuries after he was pulled out of a Corps activity and taken to Spencer Park where--we're not making this up!--he asked to perform seven different physical exercises for nearly two hours.

Two days later he was still in pain--no sh*t!--and went to the hospital where he received "invasive treatment" for his injuries (we're assuming that means surgery or some kind of anal probe.) The attackers claim the victim was just "being disciplined for not following Corps standards and conduct" but the group itself says that corrective physical exercise for minor offenses are limited to push -ups, sit-ups, and flutter kicks and must also be administered in the hallway of corps dorms, or on the corps quad. (KBTX)
Back in 2003 we reported on a series of hazing incidents involving parts of the Corps, a male quasi-cheerleading group for the Aggies:

Texas A&M Corps Hazing Incident Bitterly Divides College - Earlier this year, BadJocks proclaimed the Aggie school "The Hazing Capital of the World" after the latest of several incidents involving cadets was reported. The latest one involves spankings with an ax handle, but there have been plenty of others over the past few years: Last year, photos of members of its Corps of Cadets stripped naked and bound with duct tape were found, although no charges were filed because it was "consensual'. (see image below) The crown jewel, of course, was when junior members of the Corps--who shoot off the school's cannon at football games--were accused of hazing sophomores by dousing them with "URINE AND HORSE FECES."

Yeah, that looks consensual to us. After seeing that, it makes you wonder why hazing is still a problem on the A&M campus. Hmm . . .

Female Teacher/Coach Caught in Parked Car With Teen

And now the Canadian's want to get in on the act! For years, American coaches and teachers have been sexing up their students, and now this disease seems to have spread to the Great White North. Here's more from Canoe.com:

A 34-year-old teacher and athletics coach was suspended from her duties at a Whitby elementary school after police alleged they busted her in a sex act with a 14-year-old student in a car.

Durham Regional Police Det-Const. Jenn Bickle-Hearn said officers were investigating an unrelated missing-vehicle call at 8:45 p.m. Friday in Clarington when they came across a parked car in a rural area. Upon looking into the car, police allegedly saw the teacher and student engaged in a sex act.

The teacher has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. She had been serving as the teen's athletics coach, Bickle-Hearn said, before adding that she couldn't say much else to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

Referee at High School Wrestling Match Caught Stealing From Fans

The last thing you expect to happen at a high school wrestling match is to get robbed. And the last person you expect to do the stealing is a referee . . . they're almost like cops, aren't they? Well, it happened recently at North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA and they accused got help from--you guess it regular views of COPS--his cousin.

Here's more from CBS 3:
Police arrested referee Marcus Smith, 37, of Horsham, Pa. and Jonathan Smith, 26, of Philadelphia. Towamencin Police were called to North Penn High School on February 7 for the reported theft of an iPod valued at $400.00. The victim identified Jonathan Smith as the suspect and police said he gave police false information relating to his identity. During the investigation, additional victims were discovered and stolen items were recovered from Marcus Smith's car. Investigators said an active warrant from Philadelphia was discovered for Marcus Smith for an unrelated incident.

Dad Punches Referee at YMCA League Basketball Game

We've said it before and we'll say it again: adults are ruining youth sports. Latest case in point comes to us from Colorado Springs where the father of a teen-aged basketball player was upset over a call made by a referee during a YMCA league game, argued with the official and then punched him in the face several times.

Here's more from KRDO (link includes video clip):
A Y-M-C-A league basketball game turns violent after a parent punches a referee in the face. The parent, Steven Vaughn, was arrested around noon Saturday for third degree assault. Police say Vaughn was upset over a call made by referee Alvin Miller and punched him in the face multiple times.

Vaughn was asked to leave the game, but a verbal fight continued in the parking lot when the game ended. Vaughn was arrested for third degree assault. Miller suffered minor injuries and didn't require any medical attention.

Miller has been a youth basketball referee for nine years and said he has only seen an attack on a referee twice. "A few years back a parent jumped on a referee at a game at St. Mary's," he said. "I've seen it in this town where parents approach officials, pointing in their face, cussing at them, trying to start a fight."

Miller tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 the player was given two technical cards for cussing and thrown out of the game. Police say that's when Vaughn approached Miller and punched him several times. "He hit me a few times but I broke free and called police."

HS Cheerleader Attacked After Game, Beaten by Girls From Rival School

You know you go to a tough high school when the cheerleaders are brawling after the game. Here's more from the Ann Arbor News:

Officers were dispatched to the University of Michigan Medical Center emergency room for a reported assault on Friday night and encountered a 16-year-old girl with a swollen lip and injured leg.

The victim told police she was walking in the parking lot with her sister after the game finished bout 9:30 p.m. and was jumped by a female student she knew attended the Roberto Clemente Student Development Center. The assailant punched her in the face and another girl forced her to the ground by her hair, reports said.

Three or four girls surrounded her and began kicking her across her body, she said. She said a male friend intervened and pulled her from the crowd. The girls ran off but have been identified and are believed to be Ann Arbor residents between the ages of 15 and 17, reports said. The cause for the assault was unknown today.

MSNBC Disses HS Swim Team Over Hazing Story

The guys on the Deerfield High School's swim team have been suspended from the squad amid hazing allegations. The swimmers and their parents are claiming that the incident is just part of a "team tradition" while the administration says it was hazing, pure and simple. They boys say it's little more than a game of late nigh "tag" with younger swimmer throwing toilet paper at one house, and then being "kidnapped: by older swimmers and driven to a second house and released.

Yes, that's what they say they do to initiation new swimmers. Hilarious, isn't it?

We're still waiting for details to make our Hazing-No Hazing call, but apparently the folks at MSNBC don't think very highly of swimming as a sport . . . as evidenced by the photo (see screen capture below) with the story: unless we're mistaken, those look like the legs of young women and we're pretty sure that's synchronized swimming, not the 200 meter medley relay. We've asked MSNBC for an explanation, but so far have not received one.

Any other explanations?

Latest HS Basket-Brawl: G.W. Carver and Valley High School - Alabama

It's that time of year when high school basketball games start getting a little more heated, the fans get a little more rowdy and the brawls--both on and off the court--get more common. here's more from USA Today (video clip below):

School officials are investigating after a big brawl broke out during a high school basketball playoff game in Montgomery. The fight cleared the benches of both G.W. Carver and Valley High schools and halted the semifinal game.

The Central Regional Tournament of the Alabama High School Athletic Association game was being played at the Alabama State University Acadome on Tuesday afternoon.

Valley's Enrique Florence fouled Carver's Roquez Johnson with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. Johnson shoved Florence and both benches emptied.

Fans poured out of the stands onto the court. Police ended fights on the court but more erupted in the stands.

HS Football Coach Accused of Planning to Meet Boy for Sex

It's Monday morning: do you know where your assistant football coach is? Not so fast, Ponte Vedra High School in Florida. Here's more from MSNBC:
Instead of being in school, a Ponte Vedra High School employee was in court on Tuesday after being arrested and accused of using the Internet to solicit sex from a 16-year-old boy. Investigators tracked William Turner Online for several weeks after police received a tip from an out-of-state law enforcement agency that the 46-year-old man might be trying to contact underage boys.

Earlier this month, police were notified that Turner had contacted a teenage boy on the Internet and e-mailed the teen pictures of male genitalia. A cyber-crime investigator located the boy and his parents and was given permission to take over the boy's Yahoo account. Officials said Turner sent another e-mail offering to meet the teen for a sexual encounter on Monday morning at the McDonald's on Emerson Street. When Turner arrived, police were there to arrest him.

"I couldn't even express how disappointed I was," said Ponte Vedra High School Principal Craig Speziale. "I'm angry. I'm angry that this has happened. I'm angry for everyone associated with this school. It casts a dark cloud."

Daughter of Florida Football Coach Pulls "Do You Know Who I Am?" Card on Cops

It used to be, you had to be somebody pretty important to pull the "Do You Know Who I Am?" card out on the cops before they tried to arrest you: former heavyweight boxing champion, baseball homerun king, midget wrestler . . . but now it seems that almost anyone is sports--even kin folk--whip it out at the drop of a hat, or keg.

The latest case? Jillian Kristina McCarney, 21, daughter of Dan McCarney, University of Florida football defensive line coach and assistant head coach. Jillian, a student at the University of Iowa (dad was a long time coach at rival Iowa State) was apparently hosting a party at her apartment over the weekend when cops were called. Things didn't go well with the officers (wouldn't you hate to be a cop in a college town?) and Ms. McCarney decided not to be arrested. According to the Press-Citizen:

Police said McCarney became verbally abusive after the officer arrested her for having a disorderly house, screaming "Do you know who my dad is? He is Dan McCarney."

According to police, Jillian McCarney attempted to strike the officer with her left shoulder and kick the officer with her left leg, while continuing to be verbally abusive and threatening violence multiple times.

Jillian McCarney told the officer she "guaranteed all her charges will be 'dropped' because her name is 'McCarney'" and they have "a lot of money," according to police.

Cupid Streaker Costs Soccer Team Match, Also Their Lunches

How cute! A chubby man dressed as Cupid invades the pitch during a soccer match to hand out roses and ends up costing his team 6th place in the league standings.

How's that? Unlike other normal sports, soccer referees can arbitrarily add time to the match for delays in play: in this case a nearly naked man with a small bow and arrow. The opposing team then used that extra time to tie the game up, preventing the home team from collecting the points for a win and moving up in the standings.

Dumbass.

Here's more from the The Telegraph:
Stupid Cupid, as he has been dubbed, 'celebrated' Valentine's Day by running onto the pitch during Coventry's FA Cup tie with Blackburn. Complete with bow and arrow, Cupid spread roses around the pitch before the stewards grabbed him.

No harm done? Not according to Coventry's Michael Doyle, who reckoned the Blackburn fan ended up costing City a place in the sixth round. The delay prompted referee Steve Tanner to play five minutes of added time, which was just long enough for Christopher Samba to score a last-ditch equaliser and earn Rovers a 2-2 draw. "We could have done without him," admitted Doyle. "If he hadn't come on, we'd have seen out the three minutes added time for all the subs."

Cupid's streak wasn't Coventry only slice of bad luck at the weekend after a bout of food poisoning - caused by dodgy seafood - decimated Chris Coleman's squad before the match.

Schools: If HS Cheerleaders are Athletes They Should Be Drug Tested

Cheerleaders at all levels have fought to earn the recognition that what they do requires physical skills, training and hours of practice just like any athletic endeavor and should be considered a sport. Recently courts and state athletic associations have been confirming that which makes the cheerleaders, well, cheer, but now they may not be so happy. Along with the perks of being called a sport comes the responsibility of being drug tested, just like all the other jocks at school.

Good thing or bad thing in your opinion? Leave your comments below.

Here's more on the story from the Fresno Bee:
High school cheerleaders have argued for years that they're athletes -- just like football, baseball and basketball players. Cheerleaders do complex stunts, work out with weights, and practice from June to March.

Now cheerleaders in Visalia can prove their point: They're being tested for drugs. Under a school policy approved last month, cheerleaders must submit to the same random drug tests given to other student-athletes. It appears to be the first district in the central San Joaquin Valley to take this step.

Cheerleading coach Cara Carnahan at Mt. Whitney High welcomes the change. "You don't want your daughter being thrown into the air by anyone on drugs," Carnahan said. The change marks a big step toward recognizing cheerleaders as athletes, a status that has been denied them for a long time. "To me, cheerleading is a sport," said Redwood High cheer coach Lisa Bardonnex. "It's an evolving thing. Are we recognized as athletes? No."

It's annoying not to get more respect from peers for the physical skill of cheer squads, said sophomore Gianna Buldo, 15, a cheerleader at Redwood High.

The vexing question of what is an "activity" and what is "athletics" is a touchy subject, admits Drew Sorensen, area administrator for Visalia Unified. The state education code allows football players and other athletes -- but not cheerleaders -- to play a sport in lieu of taking state-required physical education classes.

Yet now the district is telling cheerleaders to prepare for random drug testing.

" 'You always said we're not athletes,' " Sorensen said, quoting a common refrain he's heard from cheerleaders.

Teens "Fake Rape" Classmate After Gym Class, Could Get Close Up Look at Real Thing Soon

What's a little dry humping and sexual assault between high school boys? I mean, haven't we all at one time tried to simulate rape on a younger, smaller classmate for our our fun and amusement? No, well then maybe these kids at Jupiter High School in Florida may be in more trouble than we thought. They might actually go from doing "fake rape" on someone else, to having the real thing presented to them in jail by someone named Bubba. Karma's a bitch, ain't it boys?

Here's more from the Palm Beach Post:
Two Jupiter High School students have been charged with felony battery and stalking a minor under 16 after admitting to simulating rape on a classmate. A Jupiter High School physical education teacher said he heard screaming from the locker room two days in a row in November. Both times he twice witnessed Storm Stockstill, 18, and a 16-year-old classmate, holding down a boy while they "acted out sexual acts" on him. The victim said similar acts happened on four days.

While being interviewed by a school police officer, Stockstill admitted he pretended to rape the boy on several occasions. He said he was only messing around. The 16-year-old also admitted he acted with Stockstill to simulate a sex act with the boy. He said he realized that his actions were inappropriate.

Yukon Soccer Association Suspends Three Teens Over Hazing Allegations

Okay, not the worst sports hazing we have ever heard of--being in covered with plastic wrap and having messages written on you by the players--but in Canada? We thought this kind of stuff only happened in the good ol' USA, Hazing Capitol of the World. Maybe this is one American export Canada would rather do without. Here's more from the White Horse Star:
The Yukon Soccer Association is preparing to deal with an appeal launched by some of the families of the under-14 players that were hazed back in October at an outside tournament. The appeal is in regard to the association’s investigation and findings in the matter where three players were humiliated in front of fellow teammates.

Concluding the investigation, which was completed in November, three players were suspended for an undisclosed period of time for their involvement in the hazing incidents that occurred while the team attended a national championship in Charlottetown. The suspended players were also required to apologize for their actions.

The YSA has formed an independent panel to help deal with the appeal process. “It’s not just about YSA or myself finding resolution, it’s about the families finding resolution,” said Johnny Nunan, president of the Yukon Soccer Association “The perfect outcome for me would be if all three kids (that were hazed) were playing soccer again.”

The hazing occurred late at night. Some of it involved being covered with plastic wrap and having messages written on the players. Nunan, who was appointed as president a couple weeks ago, said the appeal was filed in December and the YSA was hoping to deal with it then. “We were going to have another meeting with the parents in the beginning of December, but we were advised by the councillors involved that the families weren’t ready.”

He said he can’t discuss what parents want, but added the soccer association will respect the panel’s final decision.

Michael Phelps "Bong Hit" Picture Leads to Arrests?

This is getting strange. Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps is pictured smoking a bong and now OTHER PEOPLE are getting arrested? That's some fine police work there, Lou. Next, those South Carolina cops will be arresting anyone who looked at the picture (yes, that would be you) as a witness. I'd hire a lawyer now, but then I'm paranoid that way.

Here's more from the Quad City Times:
Police in the South Carolina county where Michael Phelps was photographed smoking from a marijuana pipe have been arresting people as they seek to make a case against the superstar swimmer, a lawyer for one arrested person said today.

Attorney Joseph McCulloch said he has a client who was charged with possession of marijuana and questioned about the now-infamous party Phelps attended near the University of South Carolina campus in November. He said his client's roommate also was arrested.

Giants Plaxico Burress Has History of Lawsuits, Most for Bad Debts

When NY Giants wide receiver Plaxico "Oops" Burress shot himself in the leg with a gun at a strip club last November, it was only the latest chapter in a long line of legal problems. On the plus side, this appears to be the first time a weapon was involved, although he does appear to be lethal when it comes to money, as well. Here's a laundry list of cash flow troubles he's had since he turned pro:

- Failed to pay a home inspector $500 for his services. Home inspector took him to court and at the last minute Burress wrote him a check for $700 to make things good. The check bounced.
- A Pennsylvania home-owners association went to court to collect $890 in delinquent dues.
- A Florida woman had to sue Burress after his car rear-ended hers. He was driving without insurance because he hadn't paid the premium.
- A school district that sued Burress for $2,745 in unpaid taxes.
- In late 2007 Burress was reportedly more than $14,000 behind on property taxes on his house in Virginia Beach, Va.

With Burress' pro career in trouble over this latest incident, if he owes you money, you may want to start getting in line sooner, rather than later. (Kentucky.com)

High School Basketball Game Suspended After Fan Punches Player

It seems to be the season of high school basket-brawl games, with parents and fans streaming out of the stands to assault other fans and players. The latest: from the State of Washington where the KingCo 4A Crest Division boys basketball game between Redmond and fourth-ranked Garfield turned ugly. Here's more from the Seattle Times:
In a bizarre scene, a Redmond High School senior charged out of the stands and punched Garfield player De'Andre Taylor in the face, spurring punches from both sides as the two teams and fans had to be separated.

The Redmond student who threw the punch reacted to a collision and verbal exchange between Taylor and Redmond player Max Wisman in a game where opposing fans traded derisive chants. Referees had stopped the action to separate the two players when the student ran onto the floor.

The Garfield bench emptied and eight Bulldogs were ejected by referees for leaving the bench area and coming onto the floor in the mayhem. With Garfield leading 50-33, the game was suspended with 5:26 remaining.

School officials, referees and coaches huddled for 15 minutes before concluding the safest thing was to suspend the game.

"We just felt it was too hostile of an environment here, and it created a safety concern for everybody," said Redmond athletic direct John Appelgate. "Garfield was going to be finishing the game with four [actually three] players, because of players leaving the bench. What we've agreed to do is suspend the game, send in video and go with whatever decision WIAA [Washington Interscholastic Activities Association] makes. I've never seen anything like this in my life."

High School Swim Coach Fired for "Mocking" T-Shirt

We're all for creativity in sports. It's one of the things that makes amateur sports and minor league baseball interesting! And yet, sometimes people who think they're being creative are instead, being crude and insulting. (And we know about crude and insulting.) Take for example of Kevin Quill, the high school swim coach coaching at Seymour High School (CT) since January 2002. He's gotten creative with the T-shirts that members of his teams wear to promote commoradore and togetherness. Like the shirt worn by members of the girls team that read, “The Wetter, The Better.” According to several former swimmers, administrators at the school made the girls turn their shirts inside out to hide the message, before they let them wear it. Okay, but that's only one example, right?
Well, there was that other shirt that was printed with, “Smashing the Competition, One Tree ... One Team at a Time.” Seems harmless until you find out that it refers to a swim team member who had crashed his car into a tree and suffered a severe head injury, putting him briefly in a coma. Hilarious!
Still, the guy shouldn't be judged by two shirts in seven years, right? That might have been the case until this year's shirt came out: “The Mascot is a quitter,” which, apparently, referred to a swimmer who quit the team after he was not made captain. In a letter to the school, Quill claimed he was “not poking fun at the student (Mascot), but instead were poking fun at the situation.” Yeah, we don't quite see that, but given the history, it might be best if he move on, especially because it seems that there's more than just T-shirts at the center of this. Here's more from the New Haven Register:

Quill’s personnel file includes five letters of reprimand, from former high school assistant principal and athletic director Raymond Necio, current Athletic Director Ed Rostowsky and former Superintendent of Schools Thomas Petruny. The letters were sent between Sept. 13, 2005, and Nov. 8, 2006.

A few of the letters warn that continued failure to comply with directives “can result in disciplinary action being taken, including dismissal from your coaching position.”

Some of the reprimands reflect Quill’s alleged failure to comply with administrative directives, such as issuing a typed copy of team rules to the swimmers and the athletic director, and providing area newspapers with the results of a home swim meet.

In November 2006, Petruny wrote to Quill after a swimmer’s parent played for him an angry voicemail message Quill had left the swimmer.

“I have heard the message you left on one of your students’ answering machine. That message was directly contrary to the role and responsibilities of the coaching job you accepted. There may be many reasons why you felt the need to express yourself in that manner. However, the choice on your part to do so was highly inappropriate,” Petruny wrote.

But prior to his termination, Quill was never subjected to any other disciplinary actions, according to schools attorney Frederick Dorsey of Hartford.

This was much to the chagrin of several students Quill coached and their parents.

“As a team, we experienced a lot more crying then we did smiling and laughing at given practices,” said one former swimmer, who asked to remain anonymous because she has a family member working in the school system.

Several girls interviewed said Quill would regularly throw kickboards and pool buoys — and, once, a shoe — at swimmers when he was displeased.

“He was very aggressive as a guy and he tended to lash out a lot,” said Jenelle Hillman, a swimmer who graduated in 2005. “You could definitely tell he didn’t know how to deal with girls because he was just very impatient with us."

Players Upset With Coach, Walk Out at Halftime of Game

How upset would you have to be with the coach of your HS basketball team to quit DURING a game? Apparently about half the team at Springer High School in Texas felt that a bullying situation had not been addressed, so they walked out at halftime and quit. Here's more from KXII:

Students and parents at Springer High School are frustrated with school administrators, and the how slow they are to respond to complaints that bullying is occurring at their school. A group of students who were all members of the Girls Basketball team until a few nights ago, sat down with our own Daniel Armbruster to express their displeasure.
They say that the head coach of the girls basketball team, Robert Bradley, along with one of his players have bullied them over the course of the last 2 years. A sign above the front door at Springer Schools reads "Welcome to our school. Where no child is left behind." But, if you ask some students and parents, they might disagree.
"He belittles them...he cusses at them," said Jamie Frasier, a concerned parent. She and others say Coach Bradley treats most of his team poorly. In fact at half-time of their game on Thursday, nearly half of his players got up and walked out. "We don't just walk away for nothing there has to be something wrong," said Chelsea Whitfield, one of the players who walked out.
The concerned students and parents say they disagree with the way that Coach Bradley and Principal Brenda Foster have allowed several bullying situations between one teammate and the rest of the team to go unnoticed.

Mom Says Boys Took Pictures of Girls While Hiding in Locker Room Ceiling - Holly, Michigan

It seemed like a fool proof plan: wait until the girls gym class at Holly High School (Michigan) was in the locker room changing, climb into the ceiling and--somehow, without being seen--take pictures of the young ladies. It was fool proof, at least, until you feel that you have share your ill-gotten gains with the rest of the school and everyone, including the victims themselves, find out about them. More from MLive:

The mother of a 15-year-old sophomore at Holly High School said three boys at the school climbed into a locker room ceiling Wednesday and took cellphone videos of her daughter and other girls as they changed after gym class. Holly police on Thursday said they are investigating an incident at the school involving a camera phone but did not detail any allegations."

Today Holly High School officials reported a possible violation of student privacy and potential violation of State Law by a Holly High School student," police said in a prepared release. The mother, who did not want to be named because it would embarrass her daughter, said her daughter called her after school Wednesday distraught. "She was humiliated, she felt very bad," the mother said. "She's just 15. She was obviously worried if they were sending (the pictures) out."

The woman said her daughter did not know she was being filmed during second hour gym class but found out after school when friends told her the boys were filming from the ceiling near where her locker was."I don't understand how three boys could get up into the ceiling; there are other kids and teachers around, how could anyone not notice?" said the mother, adding she is upset that school officials did not tell parents about the alleged incident.

High School Wrestling Hazing Leaves Five Suspended, Coach Removed

These hazing cases get national headlines, school work hard to enforce tough policies, but they just keep on happening, don't they? The latest case comes to us from Thomas Stone High School (Maryland) where five wrestlers have not only been suspended from the team, but the coach has now also been removed for the rest of the season. Once again, the incident happened on a team bus coming back from a meet late at night with--apparently--not enough adult supervision. Details below are from the Washington Post's report, but my favorite part is from one of the suspended wrestlers, Zachary Lohr, who said--after getting caught--that "Every sport I've played in high school, something like this has happened. It happened to me and another kid on the wrestling team last year."

Five Thomas Stone varsity wrestlers have been charged by the Charles County Sheriff's Office with misdemeanor hazing for their involvement in an incident on the team bus last month. All five have been suspended from school indefinitely, and first-year coach Michael Larson has been removed from his position for at least the remainder of the season.

While returning from a match at Great Mills on Jan. 20, several wrestlers taped the arms and legs of a teammate to a bus seat, then took pictures and teased him, said senior Zachary Lohr, one of the suspended wrestlers. The coach became aware of the activity in the back of the bus when the driver turned on the overhead light, Lohr said.

Larson, who did not return calls seeking comment, immediately demanded that the victim be untaped and warned the rest of the team that punishments would follow. "We take hazing very seriously," Charles County Public Schools spokeswoman Katie O'Malley-Simpson said. "Hazing falls under what we consider harassment, bullying . . . or anything that humiliates, teases, injures or potentially injures another student."

The wrestlers have been suspended from school indefinitely since Jan. 23, the same day they were charged as juveniles by the Charles County Sheriff's Office. Charles County Public Schools Superintendent James E. Richmond is expected to decide by tomorrow if the students will be allowed to return to school.

"We were just joking around," Lohr said. "We weren't trying to hurt him. Every sport I've played in high school, something like this has happened. It happened to me and another kid on the wrestling team last year."

Florida Teens Plead in YouTube Beating of Cheerleader

Well, it's been almost 11 months but the Florida Cheerleader Video Beating case is finally over. You all remember this incident from March of 2008 (if not, watch the video below to refresh your memory) where six girls from Mulberry High School in Florida lured another girl, Victoria "Tori" Lindsay, to their home and then beat the crap out of her. The often brutal attack was put on video with the intention of posting it online as a deterrent to other girls who might mouth off to the "gang." We were never quite clear on this, but it appears that some, if not all of the girls were--or had been at one time--cheerleaders. Two boys were initially charged with aiding in the attack but the charges against them appear to have been dropped.

The last two of the six, plead guilty yesterday to charges related to the attack: April Cooper, 15, pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor battery, while Kayla Hassall, 16, pleaded no contest to one count of battery. Last week, Brittini Hardcastle, 18, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and battery and last month Mercades Nichols plead to battery and tampering with a witness and faces up to three years of probation and 100 hours of community service. Brittany Mayes, 18, pleaded guilty Jan. 20 to misdemeanor battery. Likely none of the girls will go to jail, not including the time they spent after their initial arrest last April.

Caught on Tape: Scorekeepers Brawl During High School Basketball Game

Not sure if we've ever had a scorekeeper brawl on this site before, much less one caught on tape, but this one happened at the Watertown (Mass.) versus Lexington High School basketball game. Just watch the upper right-hand corner of the screen, where the Watertown scorekeeper, left, opens his water bottle and just flips it toward the face of the Lexington scorekeeper. The Lexington scorekeeper then stands up and punches him.

Super Bowl 2009 Porn "Accident" - Tucson, Arizona

Comcast Apologizes for Super Bowl Porn Glitch - Wall Street Journal

In case you don't live in Tucson . . .

Comcast is examining whether a malicious attack is behind the interruption of the company’s Super Bowl coverage Sunday by a pornographic film in some areas of Tucson. The interruption, which lasted less than 30 seconds, affected customers watching the company’s standard definition coverage but not high-definition customers, a Comcast spokeswoman said. Comcast has contacted the Federal Communications Commission as well as local authorities to investigate the matter. But an initial review showed that the company’s technical systems functioned properly at the time of the incident, suggesting someone deliberately seeking to interrupt the broadcast rather than a technical glitch. “We are mortified by the incident and we apologize to our customers,” the Comcast spokeswoman said. The company will likely issue credits to customers who were affected, though the amount remains to be determined.

Ohio State Lineman Tasered by Cops After Drunken Outburst

So, if you were a cop, how long would it take you to use your taser when confronted by a 6 foot, 8 inch tall, 312 lbs drunk who's jumping on top of cars and generally being uncooperative? About 5 seconds, I think. So is the case of Ohio State offensive lineman Alex Boone, who was arrested in Aliso Viejo, California (he was apparently there preparing for the NFL draft) Sunday night, after a tow truck driver called the cops.

According to the tow truck driver, Boone--who was obviously intoxicated--was yelling and jumping on cars outside an apartment building. He allegedly tried to interfere with the tow truck driver who was hauling a car away . . . and it wasn't even Boone's car. The driver says Boone tried to break the driver side window of the tow truck and was jumping up and down on the back and wanted to fight the him. At one point, Boone actually fell off the truck. Again, remembering this guy is 6'8" and well over 300 lbs.

Then again, when the cops arrived, Boone ran away like a little girl. They found him hiding on a nearby patio and was yelling and cursing at officers. He refused to cooperate so the cops "dry tasered" him . . . basically meaning they didn't fire the darts at him, just pressed the taser against him.

But the fun doesn't end there: Boone was so drunk (officers estimated he was three times the legal limit) that officers took him to the hospital where he allegedly yelled and cursed at nurses. From the hospital, Boone was taken to jail where he remained so uncooperative that the booking process could not be completed and he had to be tasered several more times.

In a statement to the Buckeye Extra, Boone's mom Amy claims that her little boy "has a problem that needs addressed" adding that, ". . . he's hurting. He feels terrible that he let so many people down."

Hurting? Could be all the tasering. (Bukeye Extra)

Does Michael Phelps Have Glaucoma? UK Tablids Print "Bong Hits" Picture

Dude, like how do you know that Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps doesn't have some kind of medical condition where he HAS to smoke marijuana? Huh?

The UK tabloids like the Times Online make it sound like no athlete has ever been caught smoking weed before. Then again, were we really that surprised when most of them were caught? Actually, Phelps has been pushing this squeaky clean image since the Beijing games got over, although it sounds like his lack of public speaking skills may have cost him some endorsement deals (most I have seen him in so far feature him swimming, and NOT talking). So, here's the basics behind the story: Phelps was visiting the University of South Carolina because he's secretly dating a coed who goes there, and surprised everyone by stopping in at a house party. He probably surprised them even more when he started hitting a bong and, of course, someone took a picture of it. Of course, no one sent it to me, although I might have doubted it was him in the picture, based on the angle. But the British tabloid The Sun couldn't resist and once the picture was posted, all hell broke lose. The real question is: even thought pot is not considered a "performance enhancing drug" it is still banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which sets rules and oversees testing for Olympic-level sports and could result in a two year ban for Phelps.
According to the Times, Phelps has admitted that's him in the picture and has apologized saying:

“I engaged in behaviour which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” Phelps said. “I am 23 years old and, despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”
