Steroid Summer Kicks Into High Gear: Test
for HGH Ready of Olympics - Now we'll really find out who's doping at
the Summer Olympics in Athens: a preliminary test for human growth hormone (HGH) is ready for the Athens Olympics, British researcher Claire Hartley said on Wednesday.

Shane Spencer Arrested for DUI - Is it possible we could have a new
addition to the BadJocks BAC Rankings? We might, if
athletes arrested for drunk driving would take a breathalyzer test once and a
while! This week, Shane Spencer was suspended without pay by the Mets after he was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol and charged with driving under the influence.
If that wasn't bad enough, Spencer was already on the 15-day disabled list after cutting his right foot on a piece of glass in a New York bar
last week. According to police, Spenser was stopped by state troopers
about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning driving almost 100 mph in a 70 mph speed zone on I-95.
Officers immediately smelled alcohol on Spencer's breath and "he acknowledged that he had a few drinks."
He then failed several roadside sobriety tests, was arrested, but--yes again--refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Oh
Ricky! Recently retired Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams
admitted to the Miami Herald that he failed a third drug test for marijuana use, which would cost him a four-game suspension if he decides to return to the NFL.
Kobe
Bryant Update - Colorado court officials inadvertently disclosed the name of the alleged victim
AGAIN in the Kobe Bryant rape case, including it in a two-page court order that was posted
Wednesday on the official court web site. Thanks to our friends at

Soccer Scandal Update - If it seems like all we're doing lately is
updating stories, well . . . we are. But trust me, they're good BadJock stories.
Would I steer you wrong? Anyway, the head of the UK soccer team, a Swedish guy
named Sven Goran Eriksson could lose his job over an affair with the Football
Association secretary . . . who was also having an affair with the top exec
there too. Busy gal. Several people have written in, asking for a picture of
this team-wrecker and former model Faria Alam, so we found the photo at right. I
don't know, is she really hot enough to lose your job over? (Click on
thumbnail for larger image.)
WWE
Star Charged With Kicking Woman While She Was on the Ground! If you've
ever watched pro wrestling, you know the part of the match were the hero has
fallen--often injured--to the mat and the bad guy goes over and repeatedly kicks
him while the crowd boos? Okay, image that same scenario, only replace the ring
with a bar on Hilton Head Island called Club Hypnotic and the hero is actually a
woman. That's what former professional wrestler Sean Haire, (known to WWE fans as Sean
O'Haire), is accused of doing. Specifically big bad Sean is charged with assault and battery
for punching Ivy Rowland and Deidre Clancy and kicking Clancy as she lay on the
ground. Where's Dick the Bruiser with a chair when you need him?

Update to Norco, CA Hooker Golf Story - Long time readers of BadJocks
will remember the infamous story out of Norco, California in the Summer of 2002
about a golf tournament that featured prostitutes in tents around the course,
available to "service" golfers as they played. The working girls were
caught when cops got a tip these types of "perks" were being given out
during events at the Hidden Valley Golf Club on a regular basis and they set up surveillance.
A number of people were arrested that day, but it was the two managers of the course, Jason Wood and Darren
Bollinger,
who were charged with and just recently pleaded guilty to two felony counts of conspiracy to corrupt the public morals.
My favorite quote from the original story was from course owner Henry Cox who
admitted he embarrassed when he learned of the raid and had no idea what was going on at his course.
"Lots of tournaments set up tents where drinks and prizes are handed out. Of course, not like this."
From the BadJocks Archives - How did police find out about the golf
course hookers at the Hidden Valley Golf Club? Check
out this evidence, obtained exclusively by BadJocks!
Illinois
Soccer Coach Arrested for Hitting Player - Ronald W. Wolschlag of Springfield
was arrested earlier this month for allegedly physically abusing one of his players during the 20th annual
Watermelon Soccer Tournament. According to police, Wolschlag admitted to hitting a minor boy during a soccer
game after the kid cursed at him, and he lost his temper.
Hockey
Shocker! I can't tell you which surprised me more about this story: the
fact that Chris Chelios of the Detroit Red Wings was kicked out of a popular Las
Vegas restaurant, FIX, over the weekend for throwing plates (he blamed it on his
Greek heritage!), or that he was dining with the likes of Hollywood producer Jerry
Bruckheimer, Jennifer Capriati, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Alan Thicke (Alan Thicke?) and NHL players Sergei
Fedorov, Luc Robitaille and Marty McSorley. Okay, McSorely I can understand . . . but these other losers?
Chris, please get some new friends.
UK Soccer Hit by Two Sex Scandals at Same
Time; Oddly, Neither Involves David Beckham - I
know, I know, most of you could care less about soccer, but you do have to admit
they have some great sex scandals . . . especially over in the UK. This time one
of the involves young star Wayne Rooney and the other the national coach
Sven-Goran Eriksson. Rooney, all of 18, apparently was dumped by his childhood sweetheart, Coleen
McLoughlin,
after word got out about a romp he allegedly had with a nearly 6 foot tall
prostitute . . . when he was 17. According
to The Sunday Mirror, the star of England's Euro 2004 team had sex with a call-girl
named Charlotte Glover in a "rubbish-strewn bathroom." How romantic!
The article goes into great detail on how he and the hooker met, how her twin
sister and a friend of Rooney's joined in, how many times they got together and
the girlfriend's tearful reaction. According to The Sun McLoughlin, Rooney's fiancée,
tossed her engagement
ring to some squirrels. (Includes great image of squirrel with ring.)
At the other extreme, Coach Eriksson is accused of having
an affair this summer with a secretary at the Football Association, which is responsible for the national
team. (This supposedly wrecked his relationship with his long time girlfriend Nancy
Dell'Olio.)
Rumors about the affair have been circulating for a week, but were denied by Eriksson, 56, and
the secretary, Faria Alam, 38. All of that changed this weekend when the association
issued a statement confirming the relationship AND a second affair between Alam and Mark
Palios, the FA's chief executive. You
can find photos of Nancy Dell'Olio and Faria Alam in this story. Anyone
involved in UK soccer NOT having sex?
Steroid Summer Continues to Sizzle
"We're Drowning in Urine" - Director of
Drug Testing Lab for 2004 Olympics - According to Dr. Christiane Ayotte, the
director of the National Institute of Scientific Research, which is tests
athletes for banned substances, it's been a banner year, "We're drowning in
urine. No, to be more accurate, we're swimming in it." Thanks for the visual
Doc! And yet, most of the dirty work of catching cheating athletes is left to
her partner, a lawyer, accountant, and former Olympic swimmer by the name
of--I'm not making this up!--Dick Pound. Pound is a founding director of World Anti-Doping
Agency, charged with keeping track of between 5000 and 6000 specially coded
vials of urine. Here's
a rather lengthy article if you really want the straight dope on Dick Pound, the
WADA, and the fascinating world of urine testing.
'Roids
in UK Soccer
- The Welsh Football Association has banned forward Andrew Moran for more than seven months
after he tested slightly higher than normal for the steroid called nandrolone
that occurs naturally in the body. Because the body naturally secretes this
steroid, there is an acceptable limit and Moran had only, oh, about 55 times
that amount . . . with no real explanation as to why. I did a little
research on nandrolone and found that there have been a number of other cases
were famous athletes have tested positive for amounts as much as 100 times the
acceptable limit, but had excuses that got them off the hook. According
to this website, Bobsleigh racer Lenny Paul said that his positive test was due to eating a plate of spaghetti bolognese which contained beef from cattle that had been fed steroids.
Another sportsman, a boxer, said he failed his test after having sex with his pregnant wife!
Both men were cleared. The site contains some great background information and
diagrams that you can use to impress the guys at the office today. (Sounds to me
like you just have to have a reasonably silly excuse if you get caught using
steroids. Think Barry Bonds should be working on a story?)
Two
Time Loser - Linebacker Deion Holts transferred from the University of
Kentucky to Western Kentucky after being dismissed by UK for a violation of team rules in March.
Okay, everybody makes mistakes now and then. Unfortunately, for Holts lighting
has struck twice and he's now off the WK squad after being arrested in
connection with the burglary at a golf course. Wonder if the Kentucky prison has
a semi-pro team like in "The Longest Yard?"
BadJocks Update: School Violated Rights of Showering HS
Wrestler! - Some of you may recall a really strange story we reported in
February 2003 of a HS wrestler, Brandon Tun, who attended Wayne HS in my
hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Seems that a wacky Ukrainian exchange
student--and team manager--decided to take
pictures of some of boys while they showered after a match. Nothing sexual,
just guys showering (don't ask me why!) Well, the next day at school the
exchange student thought he should show off his handiwork (developed in the
school's photo lab) to Brandon. A coach walked in while this was happening (I'm
sure it was hysterical!) and naturally confiscated the pictures. The next day,
Brandon and the two other wrestlers were expelled because they violated a school rule that does not allow students to possess pornographic materials.
(Even though, in this case, the naked pictures were of themselves showering
taken by a disturbed foreigner without their knowledge.) Of course, his parents
immediately sued the school district and the case has been winding its way
through the legal system. Well, it took more than a year, but now a federal
judge says that two school administrators, Principal Jocelyn Whittaker and expulsion examiner
Judith Platz, violated
Tun's due process rights and could end up paying
him damages.
One
of the Top HS Quarterbacks in Virginia Allegedly Has His Jaw Broken During Touch
Football Brawl - Police in Newport News, VA are still trying to sort
things out, but what they do know for sure is that a supposedly friendly 7-on-7
touch football game at Woodside High between that school and Petersburg HS turned
violent this weekend when about 60 players brawled, sending two Warwick players to the hospital.
One of those hospitalized was quarterback Cody Brodus who, according to police, appeared to
have suffered a broken jaw. In the article, Brodus is described as one of the best prep quarterback prospects in Virginia.
According to one witness, the fight started after a Warwick player intercepted a pass and was tackled by a Petersburg player.
Surprise!
Fan Violence Mars Asia Cup Soccer Tournament - Japan now says it will lodge a formal complaint after their team were harassed by Chinese supporters during and after their 4-1 win over Thailand
in a game played in Beijing. Why were the Chinese upset? "There is lingering resentment among many Chinese because of Japan's occupation of parts of the country during World War II from 1937-1945."
BadJocks Update: NJ
Little League Dad Who Beat Coach With Baseball Bat in Front of Team Pleads
Guilty - David Lomita, the Livingston, NJ man accused of beating a Little League coach
back in April with an aluminum bat in front of a team of seven-year-olds has pleaded guilty.
Lomita must pay $1000 fine, perform 30 hours of community service and see a counselor.
#160! (Number 160 from last week turned out to have
been counted already) Susan Renee Hensley, 35, a high school championship volleyball coach
at Walton High School in Georgia was sentenced to eight years in prison for having sex with a
female student. Hensley's arrest came after a 16-year-old female student at Walton accused
her of having a sexual relationship
since she was a student at Dickerson Middle School, where Hensley coached before going to Walton.
Kobe
Bryant Update - Judge in Bryant's rape case dealt a major blow to the prosecution
today by ruling that key details of his accuser's sexual history will be allowed into evidence at trial.
Specifically, Judge Terry Ruckriegle said all evidence of "the alleged victim's sexual conduct within approximately 72 hours preceding her physical examination ... is relevant ... to the determination of cause of injuries observed by the nurse" and the source of "the DNA and other bodily fluids
found." Said one former prosecutor, "If they can present credible evidence that this young lady had sex after Kobe Bryant, but before she went to the cops, then it is hard to see how the prosecution can possibly prevail."
