New HS Hazing Incident: Town "Sickened" by Accusations of Possible Sex Abuse at Basketball Camp - I always like these local newspaper descriptions of high school hazings that have "spun out of control." Now, granted, we don't know the details yet, but what it usually means is that the old-fashioned image that most adults have about hazing (paddlings, wedgies, Icy Hot in the jock strap) were somehow exceeded. But how do you know that this type of overly sexually hazing hasn't been going on for years and just never been discovered? The writers assume that no one intended to put a finger where it doesn't belong or that someone's testicles just happened to pop out at the wrong time and accidentally got rubbed into a younger player's face. Happens at the office all the time, right? Admit it folks: you have no idea what goes on at these things, so to say that they "spun out of control" is just speculation. Anyway, details are still sketchy in this latest case that allegedly involves the boys basketball team at East Carter County School District in Missouri while they attended four day camp took place in early June at Lyon College. According to the local TV news however, locals are saying that some older players attacked younger players, and some of the alleged acts are so sickening, they just can't talk about them. Stay tuned. (KFVS-12) Girl's HS Soccer Coaches Resign After Telling Team They Were "A Disgrace to Women's Sports'' - We're all for teaching kids the tough lessons of life through sports (Don't talk with your mouth full, don't run with scissors, don't have sex with someone more than 4 years younger than you) but sometimes coaches, especially at the HS level seem confuse toughness with being a bully. Case in point: the 0-18 girls soccer team at Palmerton Area High School in PA. The head coach and both assistants (all female, by the way) will not be back next season after players complained about being cursed at and bullied at practices and during games. In fact, the situation as apparently so bad that the district will now require that all coaches attend discussion sessions on sportsmanship and sensitivity. (Morning Call) HS Coach Accused of Having Sex With . . . Female Wrestler? - And no, we're not talking about one of the hot female wrestlers in the WWE. No, this was a high school girl that Todd Hoiness, 40, allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with. On one hand, the girl was 18, but there are also laws on the books that prevent this kind off interaction between teachers/coaches and students. (KOMO-TV) Girls HS Basketball Coach Arrested on Rape Charges: Cops Surprised It Doesn't Involve Student - This guy hadn't even started his new job at South Salem High School and he's already facing rape charges. Interestingly, the woman who is accusing him is neither a student or underage. She's a 38-year-old acquaintance of the coach. Having sex with a woman over 17? What kind of creep is this guy? (Statesman Journal) #7! Tasered by Cops! Dolphins Frederick Davis Struggles With Police, May Have Bit Officer - Wow, we had hoped this new category would do well its first year, but seven at the halfway point of 2007? I couldn't be prouder! But, you have to think, as pro athletes get bigger and bigger (and drunker and drunker in some cases) what's a 200 lb cop supposed to do? Call their agents? Anyway, this latest arrest sounds classic! Dolphins defensive tackle Frederick Davis (6'4", 305) forced his way into a taxi outside a club in Miami Beach over the weekend, got into a dispute with the driver, then refused to get out. Que the cops! When they arrived, Davis allegedly got into a scuffle with several officers and--TADA!!--the old Taser came out. Somehow, in the midst of all of that, one of the officers was bitten. Freddy is now charged with a host of felony charges, including: multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence, along with single counts of disorderly intoxication and trespassing. New Dolphins coach Cam Cameron is, not surprisingly, unhappy with the turn of events, saying in a statement, "We will not condone this type of behavior. I assure everyone, it will be dealt with very seriously." How's that new off-field behavior policy working for you NFL? (CBS4) Warrant Issued for Wrestler Jerry "King of the Ring" Lawler for . . . Punching Another Professional Wrestler? - When asked about the incident, Lawler made a good point: "Sometimes it's part of business. Guys get hit hard...get teeth knocked out...busted open. It just happens, and you show up for work the next day. You don't go have somebody arrested!" Where, Jerry, this time when it happened Sal "Big Cheese" Corrente didn't take kindly to your help and decided to have you charged for punching him. According to police, Corrente punched a fan during an event at Sam's Town Casino in Tunica, MS that Lawler was broadcasting. To help draw attention back to the action, Lawler allegedly went off-script as well and landed a haymaker on the unsuspecting Corrente, which lead to charges being filed. (WMC-TV) Former Student Sues Gym Teacher, School for $9 Million Over Class Beating - And you thought having to climb the rope was the worst thing a teacher could do to you in gym class? Hah! A New York area teen, Rashi Johnson, 19, claims that when he was in a class last year before he graduated, his gym teacher choked and beat him. Why? According to his lawsuit that seeks 9 million dollars in restitution, Johnson claims he and some friends were shooting hoops at the end of class when the coach told them to stop. When he didn't, the coach chucked a basketball at him and then started beating and chocking him. To add insult to injury, Johnson was then suspended from school, but ultimately was allowed to graduate. When BadJocks tried to contact the gym teacher, Gavin Meade, his response was that class had started, there was no talking, and we should drop and give him twenty. Arguing with him got us another 20 and 10 laps around the gym. We'll just say that he had no comment. (NY Daily News) "PacMan" Jones Wanted on Two
Felony Charges Related to Las Vegas Strip Club Shooting - The good news: the
cops don't think suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "PacMan"
Jones shot anyone while he was at the Minxx strip club in Las Vegas for the NBA
All-Star Weekend. The bad news? They still want him on two felony charges of
coercion stemming from allegations he threatened to kill club employees and bit
a bar bouncer on the ankle. To other members of his "entourage" also
face similar charges related the to same incident where shots were fired inside
the club, leaving one employee paralyzed and two others wounded. Police have
given the trio a couple of days to turn themselves in, after that they will go
looking for them. (USA
Today) BadJocks Update: Teacher Pleads Guilty to Charges She Had Sex With Football Player in Motel Room While Children and Baby Sitter Slept - Remember this story? Darcie Esson was a Elizabeth High School teacher who traveled with her kids to an away playoff game with the football team last fall. According to police, sometime in the middle of the night, a star player on the football, 17, found his way to her room and the two had sex while a teenaged babysitter and her two young children 4 & 8 slept nearby. This week, Ms. Esson plead guilty to one felony count of sexual assault on a child age 15 to 17 by a person in a position of trust and could be sentenced--get this--from probation to an indeterminate life sentence. Stay tuned. (Post Independent) Coach/Teacher Resigns Amid Allegations of Sex With Teen - No, he didn't marry the alleged victim, but this guy may have carried on a sexual relationship with an underage girl for several months . . . only to be interrupted by the harsh Minnesota winter. According to police, Troy Bernard, 35, taught in the Montgomery-Lonsdale School District and met the victim when she was in 4th grade. The two allegedly hooked up during last summer's Kolacky Days Festival and would get together each day when the girl would go for a run and somehow end up at the coach's house. That reportedly continued until the late fall when it was "too cold to run outside," but started up again in March. As often happens in these cases, the victim's mother found text messages from Bernard on her daughter's cell phone and confronting him. (Star Tribune) BYU Track Star Arrested for Hitting Man With . . . a Mop? According to police, a car driven by Kyle Perry of BYU, who won the Mountain West Conference title in 2006 for the 1,500-meter run, got too close to a man walking along the street with a mop and bucket in his hands. Words were exchanged and, according to the victim, Perry got out of his car, grabbed the mop from him and began beating him with it. Luckily, the man had a second mop nearby (don't we all?) and the two proceeded to have a good old fashioned mop duel. Before Perry could make his getaway, the victim managed to block his car in until police arrived. (CBS 2) NFL's New Strict Personal Conduct Policy at Work: Four
Players in Trouble, League Left Scratching Its Head - We
applauded the NFL for finally taking a stand about the off-field shenanigans of
its players this year by implementing a tough new policy on behavior. And how
have the players responded? Like the big, overpaid children they are. Female Coach/Teacher Resigns, Admits Relationship With Male Student, 17 - The school year might be ending, but the HS Coach Sex Scandals keep marching along. This one comes to us from North Hopkins High School in Texas where Heather Alicia Thompson, 30 resigned her position after confessing to cops during an interview to the second-degree felony offense of an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Duke Lacrosse Update: Former Prosecutor
Disbarred, Disgraced - In a ruling that surprised no one who has been
following this case for the past year, a North Carolina disciplinary committee
found former Durham District Attorney Michael Nifong guilty of multiple
ethical violations when he tried to prosecute three Duke University lacrosse
players on rape charges that ultimately proved false. As a result, Nifong
loses his license to practice law in the state and the floodgates for criminal
charges and civil lawsuits have opened. If you had hoped this was over, think
again. (Newsday) |
