MORE STORIES AFTER THIS WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS

"Semen Tossing" Now Part of HS Football Hazing Rituals - For those of you out there who think sports initiation practices are nothing more than a "right of passage" that everyone goes through and that hazing has really changed in the years since you were in school, listen up: football players from Fairhaven High School (MA) may be in trouble for allegedly duct-taping a young player to a bed at a private sports camp, physically assaulting him and subjecting him to "gross and lewd acts including--wait for it--tossing semen in a cup on him. Allegedly the incident started with them putting Icy Hot in the player's jock strap and then went "downhill from there." That's one steep hill. According to the school, students who violate the code of ethics can be subject to penalties that range from a warning to banishment from Fairhaven athletics, but there is some question about jurisdiction in this case as the camp is a private event. Also: for some reason the Blue Devil's head football coach resigned a few days ago, after the investigation started and less than a week before the team's first game. (South Coast Today)
BONUS: Surfing instructors were told to stop hazing young students, including giving children "pink bellies" and putting them in trash cans after pictures appear on school's website. (10 News)

#134! Teacher/wrestling coach accused of sex on school grounds with 16-year-old girl. (WFTV)

Lawyer Sues Baseball Teams Over "Ladies-Night" Giveaways, Claims Such Things at Free Pink Hats and Mother's Day Tote Bags Given Away Are "Sex Discrimination on Steroids" - Entering the gate before an Oakland As game recently, Alfred Rava noticed that team hats were being given away and asked for one. He became upset when the ballpark employee told him that they were only for female fans attending the game that night and Rava did what any good lawyer would do: he filed a suit against the team to put a stop to the practice. Rava also plans to sue the Dodgers for--I'm not making this up!--giving away free tote bags on Mother's Day because of what he calls "sex discrimination on steroids." As a result of the threat of this lawsuit and other, both minor and major league teams are either ending gender-based promotions or allowing men who ask to either attend the special events (like looking for a diamond ring engagement in a haystack) or ending them altogether. BadJocks would like to take this opportunity to tell Mr. Rava to cut out all this nonsense and do what any red-blooded American adult male would do if he wants a free baseball cap from his favorite team: swipe it from a kid that's not looking or a fat guy who won't be able to run after you. That's what a REAL man would do! (Boston Globe) Thanks to the Obscure Store and Reading Room for the link!

HS Football Hazing? Coach, Star Players Suspended for Incident at Practice - Shane Taylor, the head coach of the Warrensburg High School (Missouri) football team has been suspended by the school district after an alleged hazing incident. According to published reports, parents and students told school officials that five football players played a prank on some younger players during a recent practice. The reports go on to say that when Coach Taylor found out about it, the coach chastised the players involved. And, it's what the coach allegedly said, not that he was involved in the hazing, that got him in trouble. No more details are available, but it must have been good because Taylor has been put in indefinite leave and five players involved will miss at least one football game. (KMBC-TV)

BadJocks Update: Hockey Coach at Center of NHL "Murder-for-Hire" Case Charged With 12 Counts of Sexual Exploitation of Teens - Remember the strange case of former NHL star Mike Danton, the St. Louis Blues player charged in a bizarre murder-for-hire plot? At the time, one of the implications was that Danton was trying to have his agent, David Frost, bumped off although that was never proven and the reason was never fully explained. But one thing is certain: over the years Frost has been accused multiple times of being too close to the young players he managed. For example, after signing with Frost, Danton disowned his parents and changed his last name from Jefferson to sever all ties with them. Well, it appears there was more going on that meets the eye between Frost and some of his players after his arrest yesterday on 12 counts of sexual exploitation. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (who just completed a 2 1/2 year investigation) Frost used his coaching position between 1995 and 2001, to coerce four boys and three girls--all between 14 and 16 at the time--to take part in sexual activity. (Globe and Mail)

#133! Former girls' softball team accused of cultivating relationship with girl since 8th grade, allegedly waited until she was sixteen to have sex. The girl's mother thought something might be wrong when she checked out her daughter's cell phone bill and saw a total of 246 calls to the teacher/coach in a single month. Yeah, that might be a little out of the ordinary. (The Pittsburgh Channel)
#132!
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights is investigating the complaint of sexual harassment against the girls basketball coach at Arrowhead High School after a player on the team alleged that Ron Reichle made inappropriate advances toward one player and inappropriate comments to female basketball team members. (Lake County Reporter)

Hazing Video? YouTube Clip Appears to Show Initiation at Villanova University - Back when we originally posted the Northwestern Women's Soccer Team initiation pictures in May, we said that there had to be video clips out there. There just had to be! And with the new technology at YouTube.com, anyone can share a video clip with the world . . . which is what appears to have happened in this case. The clip is labeled Freshman Initiation, and was posted by NovaWildcats on June 1, 2006, and you can clearly see someone in the video wearing a Villanova Rugby jacket. There do seem to be a lot of people involved for it to be a varsity team, but maybe it's a club team. Or just some guys who like to initiate freshmen. If anyone can fill in the details, drop us at email at BadJocks@yahoo.com .

HS Basketball Coach Arrested for Public Intoxication, Carrying Concealed Weapon . . . in a Crown Royal Bag? - Details are still sketchy on this one, but it all appeared to start when cops got a call about a domestic disturbance where a woman claimed her ex-boyfriend, Keenan High School (SC) basketball coach Zachary Norris, grabbed her by the throat and left some scratches. (If the story ended there, you can be sure you wouldn't be reading it now.) Norris fled before police could get there, but they did find him later "staggering as he was walking" on a street nearby. When the cops approached the coach, they a strong odor of alcohol and that he was carrying a purple Crown Royal bag. When the officer asked him what was inside, Norris told the truth that inside was a gun. The quick thinking cop then knocked the makeshift holster out of his hand and quickly subdued Coach Norris, discovering later that inside, indeed, was a Hi-Point 380 ACP and a clip with 7 bullets still in it. (WIS-TV)

Groundskeeper Arrested for Setting Fire to Clubhouse, Last Heard Muttering Something About "Damn Thievin' Gopher" - It must have seemed like the perfect crime to 28-year-old William A. Tarepin of Covington, LA: wait until after the Covington Country Club was closed, break into the clubhouse, steal thousands of dollars in cash--that was for some stupid reason left inside overnight instead of deposited in the bank--then set the whole place on fire to cover your tracks. Geninus! And it might have worked if Tarepin hadn't also been the greenskeeper at the course and taken off almost immediately after the suspicious fire. He's been arrested now not only on robbery charges, but arson as well. (KATC)

Teen Busted by Mets for Pretending to Be Journalist - Come on, admit it: how many of you have considered getting a fake press pass so you could go into the locker room of your favorite team and get to meet the players up close? Well, 18-year-old Ryan Leli apparently is a man of action, not a daydreamer like the rest of you slackers. He apparently loved the New York Mets so much that he actually claimed to work for NBC Universal and also showed a fake NBC employee identification card to Mets management so that he could get press credentials. It worked. Unfortunately, running the scam once wasn't enough for young Ryan, and when he went back to the well a second time this week, the MLB team was waiting for him. Leli will now be charged with--wait for it--criminal possession of a forged instrument, falsifying business records, larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal impersonation and criminal trespass. I think Maurice Clarett has fewer charges against him! (Houston Chronicle)

Marion Jones Tests Positive for Performance Enhancing Drug, Sports Fans Everywhere Let Out a Collective "Duh!" - Five years ago, Mario Jones was on the covers of magazines being touted as possibly the greatest female track and field athlete in American history. Even that little incident where her then-husband C.J. Hunter tested positive before the 2000 Sydney Games didn't raise too many eyebrows. But the downfall was quick and once drug testing kicked into full gear, Jones performance level dropped substantially and she's never been the same since. Now, Jones allegedly tested positive for the blood booster erythropoietin at June's U.S. Track and Field Championships and could face a two year ban from the sport if the "B" sample comes back with the same results. (Mercury News)

#131! Gym teacher/tennis coach at Tamalpais High School (California) has been charged with sexual battery against a former member of the boy's tennis team. (Marin IJ)
#130!
Little League/Pop Warner football coach charged with nine counts of lewd acts on a child under 14. (Monterey Herald)
