Video: Drunken Belgian Soccer Player Drives Porsche Into Convenience Store

They do things differently in Europe, don’t they? In the US, a star athlete would pay someone else to drunkenly drive their care into a 7-11. But not over there. Nope, in Europe they still do things the old-fashioned way. As my grandpa used to say, “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.” That’s likely the motto of Belgian soccer star Jonathan “Which One is the Brake?” Legear.

Here’s more on the story from USA Today (video below):

A Belgian soccer player drove his speeding Porsche through the glass doors of a gas station convenience store, injuring a customer at the cash register.  Security video taken early Sunday shows Jonathan Legear’s car crashing in the eastern town of Tongeren. The luxury sports car plowed through several stalls of food and drinks before stopping, forcing customer Jeffrey Dewallef to jump out of the way. “Injuries are mostly scrapes but I also have a badly twisted ankle,” Dewallef told a local television station. The 25-year-old player will be charged with involuntary assault and possibly intoxication, court spokesman Michel Zegers said Monday. Legear will be banned from driving for at least two weeks and could spend time in jail, Zegers added.

The store’s owner estimated the damage at $325,000. Legear apologized to all who “have been directly or indirectly affected by what happened.”
