Painful Sports Video: Giant Lacrosse Player Gives Cheap Shot to Opponent

Lacrosse video: player cheap shot to head with stickFirst off: how is a guy this much bigger than everyone else playing lacrosse and not a professional wrestler? Second, do you really think it’s a good idea to give something that big a stick to beat other people with.  Okay, so the opposing player does have a helmet on, but he still gets knocked to the ground by Goliath in this video.

The tape stops shortly after the cheap shot, but we heard a rumor that other players then picked up folding chairs and started slamming each other in the back and over the head with them. The goalie may have jumped off the top rope and put a pile driver into another guy’s head for no reason.  There also might have been a “foreign object” tucked into one of the player’s shorts and used to open a small, but profusely bleeding, head wound on an opponent’s head. (Or we could just be confusing that with one of the Wrestlemania’s from the early 90′s.)

And you wonder why American teenagers love lacrosse so much?

Cheerleaders Stripped of National Title for Using Illegal Player – Cal State Long Beach

Long Beach State LogoLess than three weeks ago, the cheerleading squad for Cal State Long Beach performed at the National Cheerleaders Assn.’s competition in Daytona Beach, Fla., and won the title for its division. Congrats!

Then, of course, an adviser to the group watched a video of the event and noticed something strange. At least one member of the squad (maybe more) had actually graduated back in December. Uh, oh.

Of course, had this been an NCAA powerhouse football program, likely no one would have cared or the punishment would have been to sit out several games at the beginning of next season. But this is competitive cheerleading, dammit! You just can’t let that happen and expect to draw the kinds of ratings they do on ESPN.  What next? Is someone going to reveal that Brittany and Ashley’s “freak out” at Nationals last season was ‘roid rage and not PMS?

What is our world coming to?

As a result of the incident at CSLB, long time coach Eric Anderson has been fired and the championship belt (they get big belts like professional wrestlers, right?) forfeited. It now belongs to Stephen F. Austin State University. Unless, of course, they also cheated.

Below is a video from YouTube that is reportedly of CSLB at the April 8 competition.

HS Baseball Coach & Assistants Fired, 18 Players Suspended After Beer Incident at Hotel

It probably comes as no surprise to most of you that it’s probably NOT a good idea to give teenagers booze. Especially when you’re their coach and you’re at a hotel for an away baseball tournament in Arizona. Then again, it apparently DID seem like a good idea to at least one of the coaches at Burroughs High School (CA) and now the entire team (including three other coaches) are paying the price.

According to the district, Indians Coach J.R. Schwer and three assistants who were present at the mid-March tournament have been fired; 11 players who took part in the drinking suspended for five days, seven other players who didn’t drink but were there and didn’t report it were suspended for two days, and the remainder of the team’s season was canceled.

But other than that, no big deal.

“I do my best to hire the best coaches that I can, and we do everything to take care of the kids. For a coach to do what he did…” Schwer said, his voice trailing off. “I don’t think the kids have to suffer by Burbank having their season taken away from them. … I just feel terrible for the kids.”
