Five Furman Footballers Foiled

Freakin’ fantastic!

From another chapter of “Schools That Must Recruit From Juvenile Detention Centers,” comes a story about 5 Furman football players – sounds like the beginning of a nursery rhyme but this 1 does not end happily ever after.

It all started with a tip, that lead to a 2 week investigation, that culminated in the arrest of Aaron Riley, Jordan Griffin & Tim Lawrence, who needless to say have been dismissed from the team. Sterling Johnson & Nathan Wade have been suspended indefinitely due to their lesser crimes of interfering with police & simple possession, respectively.

There is some hope in this tale from magical marijuana land: Furman President Rod Smolla issued this spirit lifting statement, “I have been a strong advocate for our student-athletes & I will continue to be their champion, for I know strength of character & spirit they bring to Furman”. This character & spirit that he is championing, mind you, led to the alleged sale of drugs to an undercover officer while having more than 3 lbs of pot in the car and more controlled substances back at their hotel base of operations.

True sports fan Nathan Lynell Wade, stood by his team during the arrest & was chargFurman University Logoed w/ disorderly conduct for shouting profanities at the police. Nice to know that someone will always have your back …
