Not sure what is sadder here: that John Maronto, the winningest high school football coach in Volusia County (FL), was arrested as part of a prostitution sting, or that hookers in this part of Florida only get $50 for sex anymore? Sounds like the bad economy really has taken its toll on the Sunshine State.
In more positive news: Florida cops still have enough money to run prostitution stings.
An undercover Daytona Beach police officer posing as a prostitute has video and audio recordings of Volusia County high school football coach John Maronto offering her $50 for sex, documents released today show.
Maronto, 68, a winning coach from Mainland High School, pulled up in a blue 2003 Toyota to where a sting was being conducted at Seabreeze Boulevard and State Road A1A Saturday night and early Sunday, records show. He waved the female officer over to his car, which was in a parking lot, from the corner where she was standing, according to a police report.
He told the officer he wanted a “date” and told her to get in the car, the report states. But she told him she had a motel room and asked, “What are you looking for?” she wrote.
“Sex!” he replied, according to the report. When she asked how much he as willing to pay, Maronto replied, “I have $50!” the report states.
