HS Football Hazer Gets Year in Prison

Hazings Category LogoThe long case of football hazing that took place on Las Vegas, New Mexico nearly two years ago has finally ended and the ringleader of the incident was sentenced to a year in prison for holding down younger members of the team and sodomizing them with a broomstick.

A Las Vegas, N.M., teenager has been sentenced to a maximum one-year term at a juvenile jail for his role in the August 2008 sexual assaults of teammates on the Robertson High School football squad. Eighteen-year-old Lucas Martinez was led away in handcuffs Thursday from a Santa Fe courtroom after Judge Mark Macaron determined his involvement rose to a level justifying commitment to a juvenile facility. Several boys were held down against their will and sodomized with broomsticks during a training camp.
