Missouri Male Cheerleader Assault Update: Female B-Ball Players Defended Friend

The male cheerleader for the University of Missouri, Justin Short, who was allegedly assaulted by two members of the Tiger’s women’s basketball team, has now been suspended from the squad. Also, more details on what happened in the apartment last week have emerged, and the mother of one of the alleged assailants is saying that it was Short who started getting physical and actually had his hand around the throat of another female roommate before Amanda Hanneman and Jessra Johnson got involved.

Sounds like one of those bad let’s-continue-the-party-at-my-place incidents where everyone involved probably had more to drink than they should have and were not thinking (or acting) clearly.

Still, they kicked his ass and he called the cops. Not gonna live that one down for a while, are you Justin?

Justin Short, the Missouri cheerleader who accused Missouri women’s basketball players Amanda Hanneman and Jessra Johnson of assaulting him, has been suspended indefinitely from MU’s cheer squad for a “violation of team policies,” according to athletic department spokesman Chad Moller.

The mother of Hanneman said today that her daughter and Johnson were trying to defend a female friend when they fought with Short early Friday morning. Hanneman and Johnson, Missouri’s two leading scorers, were arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault early Friday morning. Both were released on $500 bond but are suspended from the team indefinitely.

Betsy Hanneman told the Tribune her daughter and Johnson felt their friend was in physical danger before they fought with Short and allegedly left him with a broken nose and an eye injury.
