Mom of Steelers Player Arrested for Game Watching Brawl

Isn’t that how it always happens? You’re a famous football player and, naturally, your mother organizes a party to watch the game at the local VFW hall and invites 100 people. At some point, the simple rivalry between your team (in this case, the Pittsburgh Steelers) and your Ohio rivals (the Cleveland Browns) get a little heated and suddenly people are getting hit in the head with beer bottles. Happens all the time!

Well, it’s happened at least once to Steelers linebacker James Harrison. Probably best if mom watches the games at home alone for a while James. On the plus side, mom’s mug shot proudly shows her wearing a Steelers jersey.

Mildred J. Harrison, 62, of Akron, was given a summons for simple assault following the fight during Thursday night’s game between the Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, Akron police said. Mildred Harrison, who was wearing a Steelers jersey when she arrived later at the police station, told officers she was assaulted during the “chaos” but was not involved in the fight.

A warrant was issued for her daughter, Shovonne C. Johnson-Roper, 39, of Akron, and a third person, charging them with felonious assault. Four people, including two who were hit in the head with beer bottles, were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
