It’s your classic case of having too much fun at the NBA All-Star Game . . but this time it was a mascot getting injured. Here’s more from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
It’s Monday morning: do you know where your assistant football coach is? Not so fast, Ponte Vedra High School in Florida. Here’s more from MSNBC:
Instead of being in school, a Ponte Vedra High School employee was in court on Tuesday after being arrested and accused of using the Internet to solicit sex from a 16-year-old boy. Investigators tracked William Turner Online for several weeks after police received a tip from an out-of-state law enforcement agency that the 46-year-old man might be trying to contact underage boys.
Earlier this month, police were notified that Turner had contacted a teenage boy on the Internet and e-mailed the teen pictures of male genitalia. A cyber-crime investigator located the boy and his parents and was given permission to take over the boy’s Yahoo account. Officials said Turner sent another e-mail offering to meet the teen for a sexual encounter on Monday morning at the McDonald’s on Emerson Street. When Turner arrived, police were there to arrest him.
“I couldn’t even express how disappointed I was,” said Ponte Vedra High School Principal Craig Speziale. “I’m angry. I’m angry that this has happened. I’m angry for everyone associated with this school. It casts a dark cloud.”
It used to be, you had to be somebody pretty important to pull the “Do You Know Who I Am?” card out on the cops before they tried to arrest you: former heavyweight boxing champion, baseball homerun king, midget wrestler . . . but now it seems that almost anyone is sports–even kin folk–whip it out at the drop of a hat, or keg.
The latest case? Jillian Kristina McCarney, 21, daughter of Dan McCarney, University of Florida football defensive line coach and assistant head coach. Jillian, a student at the University of Iowa (dad was a long time coach at rival Iowa State) was apparently hosting a party at her apartment over the weekend when cops were called. Things didn’t go well with the officers (wouldn’t you hate to be a cop in a college town?) and Ms. McCarney decided not to be arrested. According to the Press-Citizen:
Police said McCarney became verbally abusive after the officer arrested her for having a disorderly house, screaming “Do you know who my dad is? He is Dan McCarney.”
According to police, Jillian McCarney attempted to strike the officer with her left shoulder and kick the officer with her left leg, while continuing to be verbally abusive and threatening violence multiple times.
Jillian McCarney told the officer she “guaranteed all her charges will be ‘dropped’ because her name is ‘McCarney’” and they have “a lot of money,” according to police.
